Lori Henderson MBE

Hello! Having lived and worked in Japan for almost 14 years, I’ve decided to start a blog.

As Executive Director of the British Chamber of Commerce in Japan (BCCJ), I’m responsible for the leadership of a ’68 year old start up’ – a commercial and cultural network of over 200 member organisations – where no two days are the same.

I grew up in Dundee, Scotland, gained my Master’s degree in Mediaeval English from the University of St. Andrews, and moved to Kitakyshu, Japan, in 2003.

Following the triple disasters of 3/11, I was awarded an MBE in The Queen’s 2013 New Years Honours List, for services to post-earthquake reconstruction and to the British business community in Japan.

Passionate about Diversity and Inclusion (D&I), sustainable business, and talent pool development, I’m a big believer in “doing well by doing good”.

Over the past couple of years, I’ve had my eyes firmly focused on the opportunities presented to Japan via the Tokyo 2020 Olympics and Paralympics, and the 2019 Rugby World Cup.

I’m an enthusiastic Crossfitter and balcony gardener.

And, my husband and I had our first child, a very active baby girl, in early November 2016.

Life as we know it, is good . . .
